To strengthen individuals, families and communities by meeting the needs of adult learners.
Our Vision:
Transforming Lives through Adult Education in Cape Breton County
Our dedicated board and staff are committed to increasing education levels in our community. Our work lowers poverty levels, increases the educational achievement of participants’ children, contributes to economic development, improves health, reduces crime, and enhances the ability of residents to actively participate in and contribute to their communities.
Over 25 years experience of working with adults who want a better future for themselves and their families
Each year, we help more than 125 CBRM residents to get the key skills they need to unlock their full potential—improving job prospects, opening further educational opportunities and increasing engagement with their communities. As a community-based nonprofit learning organization, we collaborate closely with our community partners to meet the needs of adult learners across CBRM. We have been a beacon of adult education since 1989.
Our work is guided by the Pillars of Success of our Strategic Plan: Programming & Space; Financial Resiliency; Internal & External Communication; and Staff & Board Resources.
The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County is a Registered Charity, CRA Registration number 869655985 RR 0001.
Our major funder is the NS Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration. Our programs are also supported by United Way of Cape Breton, Literacy Nova Scotia, and other funders as funding opportunities arise.
Join us on this transformative journey toward a more educated, empowered, and engaged community.
We don’t just provide education, we ensure you have the tools and support to succeed.
